Legoland Denmark

I’ve always been a massive fan of these little bricks. As a kid I never had the opportunity to go to Legoland in Denmark, so when I finally got the chance last summer I jumped at it.
Wandering round the various insane structures that those Lego engineers have come up with, it’s really difficult not to regress to childhood
immediately. Wherever you turn there’s this constant reminder of being surrounded in bricks of all shapes and sizes – and building whatever your imagination could come up with. Admittedly, this usually involved epic space battles, epic medieval battles – and just general carnage on an unprecedented epic scale.
The worst thing about trying to conduct these huge wars, was the fact that you could only field about 20 men. After watching A Bridge Too Far or Robin Hood, you tried to conscript as many plastic Lego bodies as possible, even if it meant giving a road sweeper a spear, or arming an astronaut with a battle axe. Whatever it took to defeat the evil Germans, or possibly French Lego people, I’d do it.
It was the versatility of Lego that made it one of the best childrens toys ever – in my opinion. Not only in terms of the personnel, but in terms of the structures you could come up with. You could demolish your Lego fortress and turn it into a colossal, if slightly unconvincing space ship within a day.
Anyway, I digress – going to Legoland brings all this back, in an environment where you can really just let go and be 9 years old once more. There’s loads of rides as well which is pretty cool if you ever get bored of the little coloured bricks – which is quite obviously not possible.
