Autumnal London

Gaze up at the famous gilt clock face of Big Ben in the autumn sunshine, cross the bridge over the murky Thames and enjoy the smell of the hot dog stands and flag sellers as you reach the other side. Pass under the immense London Eye and decide not join the excited queue; instead you walk by the river, passing the skateboarders and culture seekers.
Watched over by the OXO tower you approach the industrial elegance of the warm and inviting Tate Modern. Having absorbed as much art as you can stomach, you catch a glimpse of Saint Paul’s across the river and decide to take a closer look. Over the no longer wobbling bridge you find the majestic marble of Wren’s masterpiece, topped with the Luftwaffe-dodging dome, so wreathed in fire smoke and smog and cloud; no longer though, burnished in the clear autumn daylight.
Fuelling up on coffee and designer sandwiches you head towards the financial district, passing the Old Bailey on the way. Pass the Old lady of Threadneedle Street and steal upon the great gherkin lit up with insurance powered electricity, smaller sister of the Thatcherite Tower 42. Londoned up you reach the cavernous Liverpool Street and begin your journey to wherever isn’t London.
