The preconceptions that many of us have about Scotland’s largest city may well result in us being pleasantly surprised when we turn up. If we arrive by train, we’ll start our adventure in the majestic Central Station. if you like shopping, you’re going to love this city – there are a wealth of top department stores as well as shopping centres like the St Enoch’s Centre.
In terms of accommodation there is a great deal to choose from – from lavish 5 star hotels if you’ve got a few bob – or cheap £12 a night bunk beds if you’re on a tighter budget. Wherever you sleep, you’ll be able to enjoy the many attractions of this city, once known as the Empire’s Second City.
Take a trip west and see the massive war ships under construction by the Clyde; if you like maritime history then Glasgow offers lots of it. Many famous ships have been built here.
You should also check out the University of Glasgow – where some seriously impressive gothic architecture awaits you. You should also take a visit to the grand old Kelvingrove Art Gallery – which offers a great day out for the family.
But the best thing about Glasgow is the people. Fewer places have so many friendly folks – the only problem might be trying to understand what they’re saying! So if you like a few beers, Glasgow offers plenty of great drinking holes. Just don’t go too far east because you might find yourself in hot water – or cold water if the locals throw you in the Clyde.
