If you’re planning a trip around the world, the idea of going alone can be a bit daunting, but here are some travelling tips on the subject. Many of those who are a little overwhelmed by a solo trek, tend to get together one or two friends with whom to go travelling. When you’re sitting on a 24 hour flight to the other side of the world, having someone to go there with can be very calming. And of course, going travelling with a girlfriend or boyfriend is often very rewarding – as you can experience new places and activities together.

Certainly for female travellers, the security of this option is very attractive. But there is definitely something to be said for attempting an adventure of this sort alone. The worry for the solo traveller is that they’ll be alone for long periods – but once on the backpacker trail, you soon realise that many others are in the same position. This makes meeting new people much easier than it would be in, for example, Britain.
Wherever you go, from Thailand to Australia – and even in European cities – this relaxed approach to meeting new people prevails. It is of course quite common for a fair amount promiscuity to occur on the backpacker trail too – as both males and females are no longer constrained by their old friends or communities. So perhaps one of the best reasons to go alone – is to get laid!
There is also a large degree of freedom to be had when travelling alone – you can move on to the next destination with no quarrels, no debates, and you go where you want. Having said this, solo adventurers often join various other groups as they go. Travellers, having completed their journey, often talk of a feeling that they were never alone, as if all the people they met where somehow connected, as if they were in the company of old friends for the entire duration.
Whichever one you choose, a good time will be hard to avoid.
